Here are some notable recent purchases:

MSI X370 GAMING PLUS ATX Motherboard - $50

An MSI X370 GAMING PLUS ATX Motherboard

Pretty self-explanatory, purchased off Facebook Marketplace. Nice that it included the IO shield.

Corsair CX600 & Corsair CX750M - $25 for both

Corsair CX600 & Corsair CX750M PSUs

The CX750M is semi-modular and didn’t come with any modular cables. Luckily I picked up a Corsair HX750 a while back that included all of the modular cables. Since the HX uses Type 3 cables that are the same as Type 4, I’m just going to use some of the extra cables from the HX for the CX. Confirmed working after testing it with the Dr. Power II.

Gaming Desktop - $70

A gaming desktop purchased off Facebook Marketplace

The specs were:

Type Part
CPU Intel i3-8100
Motherboard ASUS Z370 MAXIMUS X HERO (Bent Pins)
RAM 8GB (2x4GB) DDR4 3000MHz ADATA
GPU RX 460
Storage (SSD) 512GB SK hynix NVMe SSD
PSU EVGA 750 GA PSU
Case NZXT H510

The listing claims I turned it on and it works, but I am not 100% sure of its functionality. no returns and questions, as is. This is usually a sign that something is wrong. When I got home and plugged it in, I was able to boot into the BIOS so I thought I’d gotten lucky, but eagle-eyed readers will notice what I didn’t from the listing, which is that:

  1. The RAM is in slots B1 & B2
  2. The GPU is in the secondary PCI-E slot

Once I put the RAM in A2 & B2 per the manual, the motherboard’s RAM diagnostic light turned on and it wouldn’t POST.

Additionally, shifting the GPU to the primary PCI-E slot resulted in no video signal.

After some Googling, I concluded it was most likely the result of bent pins, and removing the CPU confirmed it – I’ve bent back many AMD pins successfully, but I’ve never bent back Intel pins, which are recessed in the motherboard’s CPU socket. This will be a project but I don’t have high hopes for successfully fixing all of the pins. Luckily all of the other parts work and in sum are worth more than the $70 I paid so I didn’t really lose money.

iBUYPOWER Prebuilt (Element Mini 167A) - $200

iBUYPOWER Element Mini 167A

This was another gaming desktop I came across on Facebook Marketplace. The original price was $500 but the listing had been up for several weeks and the seller had reduced the price to $250. I offered $200 and the seller accepted. The link to the original prebuilt can be found on Amazon, but not all of the parts were included. What it did come with:

Type Part
CPU Ryzen 5 3600
Motherboard ASRock A320M/AC
RAM Forza 8GB DDR4 2666MHz
GPU Nvidia GT 730
Storage (HDD) 500GB Western Digital Blue HDD
Storage (HDD) 1TB Western Digital Green HDD
PSU 500W PSU
Case iBUYPOWER mATX Case

Unfortunately, no IO shield was included and for some reason I couldn’t find a spare from the usual sources of Ebay/Amazon/Aliexpress. Also, only one ARGB fan was included, but there was no ARGB controller for hooking up to the case’s 2-pin ARGB switch.

All in all, I think I ended up overpaying by at least $30 for this combo.

Skytech Prebuilt + HP Omen X 25f Gaming Monitor + Royal Kludge R65 + Razer Viper Ultimate

A Skytech Prebuilt Gaming PC purchased off OfferUp

This OfferUp listing was for just the PC for $100. When I made the offer, the seller said someone had already offered. I offered $120 and the seller accepted. When I arrived, he said he also had an HP Omen X 25f gaming monitor, Royal Kludge R65 keyboard, and Razer Viper Ultimate for an additional $50. I was able to plug everything in at his place and test that it all worked, so I took the entire lot.

An HP Omen X 25f Gaming Monitor, Royal Kludge R65 Keyboard, and Razer Ultimate wireless mouse purchased on OfferUp

These are the specs on the PC:

Type Part
CPU Ryzen 7 2700X
Motherboard ASRock B450M/AC
RAM SP 16GB DDR4 3200MHz
GPU MSI Nvidia RTX 2060 Super Ventus
Storage (SSD) 1TB NVMe SSD
Storage (SSD) 500GB PNY SATA SSD
Storage HDD 3TB Western Digital Green HDD
PSU 550W Gamdias KRATOS M1-550B PSU
Case Skytech mATX Case (no side panels)

The case is pretty much useless for a flip, since it didn’t come with any side panels. However, it did come with 3 ARGB fans and a proprietary fan controller that just so happened to have a 2 prong connection for switching the ARGB. I actually hooked up the iBUYPOWER case’s 2 prong LED switch to the Skytech controller and was able to change the LEDs, so I think I’ll be swapping the fans and controller into the iBUYPOWER case.

Additionally, the 3TB Western Digital Green hard drive was predicted to fail by Hard Disk Sentinel (Raw Read Error Rate + 274 Bad Sectors + 967 Weak Sectors), so it’s probably going straight to e-recycle.
